April 13, 2010 from senior Kelsey Nixon
Hello Pioneer Fans!!! Welcome to Nationals prep week. I am Kelsey Nixon, the fifth year senior on the team and I am extremely blessed to be able to come to you with the details on the progress of our Nationals prep week. We have been waiting for these final moments since the day we came back to school in September, and boy has it been a journey. This team has come a long way physically, mentally, and cohesively. I can honestly say we are completely ready to take on Nationals 2010.
It was obvious at Sunday’s practice that we were geared up and ready to get started on the last finishing touches before the big show. Fist we welcomed RO and the coaches back from their short, but successful trip to the NCAA Regionals in Missouri. We then began practice with our traditional meet warm up followed beam, which will be our first event on day 1. We rotated to each event rotating; beam, floor, vault, and bars. We rocked each event; it just seemed effortless. It was awesome. I could just tell we were focused and determined to get the job done. Today at practice the focus continued. We came in with mission. We got to concentrate on two events, beam and floor, going over the little things. It is really nice at this point of the season to just focus on the minor details, because that is what will separate the winning team in the end.
Once practice was over we got to go for a swim in the pool for conditioning. This time Coach actually joined us. A little against his will, but with some motivating, coercing, pushing, and shoving we got him to get in with us. ;) We have never pushed him in at the beginning of our lovely swims. It was definitely a different experience. One I think he will never forget. We tried to get him to let us go after that, but no such luck. He said if someone beat him at swimming freestyle we could go. We tried, but we were not successful. Way to go coach!! I think we were ALL impressed. Good thing we are not getting ready for the National swimming competition.
Tomorrow practice is from 3:15 to 7:15. I know everyone is ready to finish off the practice season with a bang. I know it is going to be nothing short of spectacular. Stay tuned for the next update.
