December 5, 2011 from junior Amy Winczura

Hello Pioneer Gymnastics fans!

My name is Amy Winczura and I am a junior this year! I am a TWU Honors Scholar and a Kinesiology major, minoring in Biology.  My professional goal is to attend medical school and become a successful orthopedic surgeon.

Wow, it is so hard to believe that I am an upperclassman when it seems I started my adventure here just the other day. I am unfortunately redshirting this year due to an injury but I am excited to have another year ahead of me spending it with the most amazing team.  I am so excited for this upcoming season as it is very rapidly approaching and I know that as a team we are going to accomplish great things.

This week started off with an excellent practice preparing for our practice intrasquad mock meets and Holiday Spectacular this past Sunday!  We began Monday’s practice with a guest speaker who is a professor here at TWU.  He talked to us about how we can train our minds to determine the outcome of our event, meet, and season.  Tuesday we had our first mock meet of the year and the first college competition atmosphere for our freshmen.  We started off on vault where strong performances were shown from all.  We then moved to beam where again we had excellent performances.  The other two events, bars and floor, were shown on Thursday.  We not only showed the fire in our eyes during these practice meets, but we also had a lot of fun.  Friday we put the finishing touches on all our routines and got one last intense practice in before the Holiday Spectacular on Sunday.

The team also adopted some families of students here on campus who could use a little help this Christmas season.  Each class donated money, and then shopped for gifts that were wrapped and donated.  It was a great opportunity to give back to our TWU community and it feels wonderful to know that we have brightened the holiday season for several families.

We finished up the week with an amazing Holiday Spectacular for all of our loyal fans! The coaches, student-athletes, and staff put in a lot of hard work to make this event spectacular and well, it was spectacular.  It was an excellent sneak peak for all of you and what you can look forward to this season.

That’s all for now. Check back next week for another update!
