Hello TWU Gymnastics Fans!
My name is Courtney Cochefski and I’m a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois. I am a kinesiology major with a minor in nutrition hoping to be sports nutritionist. Last season I was injured and unable to compete but this year I am back in action doing Bars, Beam and Floor with hopes of contributing on all of those events. I cannot explain to you how blessed I feel to be a part of such a dynamic, unique team that is truly a family. The drive, determination and the fire in everyone’s eyes is already showing and motivating us each and every day to be the best team we can be.
Our Labor Day was unlike any Labor Day most people are used to; it was actually filled with labor! We began bright and early just in time to watch the sunrise together while we labored until we were all labored out. We took a scenic run around campus, put our legs to the test on a few sets of stair runs and topped it all off with some P90X abs. By the end of this workout we were all a little stronger than we were when we woke up. Nothing could stop us from pushing ourselves to the limit.
On Tuesday, we were finally able to do gymnastics at our first practice as a team. We had four events going at once, working basics that we will use to improve our big tricks. Being able to do gymnastics with the whole team for the first time gave everyone an amazing feeling as we all worked our hardest side by side. This practice set the tone for the rest of the year as we are only going to go up from here.
Thursday, we had another day of conditioning! We started off with a team circuit that worked our whole bodies. After that we put on our shoes and sprinted away on our new, fancy cycling bikes. After that, we topped it all off with our first swim workout of the year! We put on our swim gear and swam, ran and jumped in the pool. The next morning, we enjoyed another sunrise together on the UNT football field. We ran, sprinted, kicked and climbed the steps of the stadium together. By the end of that workout we had little chunks of turf stuck to our bodies. We were then rewarded with a weekend off to rest our bodies and get ready for another week similar to this one.
Being part of TWU Gymnastics is something truly special. I can’t wait for our team to accomplish big things this year and make history. Our new coaching staff has big plans for us this year just like we have big plans for ourselves. This year TWU Gymnastics is going to be THE team to watch! Check back in next week for more!
