Sept. 26, 2011 from junior Kristin Edwards
Hello everyone! My name is Kristin Edwards and I’m a junior from St. Paul Minnesota! I’m an English Major with a Minor in Elementary Education. I hope to someday teach in the younger grades of Elementary and I would also like to pursue some type of career within English whether it is editing or journalism I haven’t quite decided past the field of English in general.
This week was our first official week of practice and it couldn’t have come soon enough! After a few weeks of limited time together as a team we finally got to have our official time as a team in practice. I’m sure many of the girls would agree with me that this was the best first week of practice yet. We started the week off with a “sweaty Sunday” practice because for some reason TWU forgot to give us air conditioning. We made the best of it though and still had a great practice with some “Bodies by Bowerman” total body conditioning at the end of practice. When we came back for practice Monday we were delighted to have our comfortably air-conditioned gym back! Tuesday morning was our first day of weight lifting and we paired up to pump some iron. The rookies were paired with upper classmen and we worked as a team through our first weight lift of the year! That afternoon we had a quick three hour practice filled with some basics and lighter stuff so we not only improve our basics but keep our bodies feeling healthy. Wednesday came and we had our day off to relax and get ready for our second half of the week. Thursday we had another lifting session in the weight room and another practice in the afternoon before heading home to rest up for Friday mornings four hour practice! After that, the first week of official practice was behind us and boy was it a great week!
Unfortunately we had a few sick gymnasts this week myself included. On the bright side I am glad we are getting our sick bugs out of our system so they don’t get in the way when we really need to be healthy. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds in store for us because like I said before this has been an amazing week! Our new coaching staff is getting all settled in and used to working with each other and us in the gym which has made this transition between coaches go incredibly smooth. Check back next week for the pioneer post from Senior Chaynade Knowles!
