The Official Website of the Texas Woman's University Pioneers
January 16, 2012 from Brittany Johnson
Hey all you Pioneer gymnastics fans! I’m Brittany Johnson , I’m a junior this year, however due to a knee injury I will be redshirting this year. I’m from Houston, Texas and I’m majoring in business in hopes that one day I will run my own gym and have an awesome team!
This week was an exciting week. It was our last week to prepare for our home opener against Air Force. Practice went really well. We were all very focused and getting our minds and bodies ready to perform our routines in front of all of our fans! We had two in-gym intrasquads on Sunday and Monday. Sunday was vault and beam, Monday was bars and floor. Both days went very well and it was very exciting to see everyone behind the person doing their routine. It puts such a positive feel in the gym when everyone is cheering and together. It just brings so much energy! Not only was practice awesome this week, we also welcomed the newest member of TWU gymnastics Austin Bowerman, and could not be more excited for Jeff and Lisa!
We kicked off our season last night against Air Force with a win. We started off strong on vault and headed to bars and had a little bit of a struggle but brought it back with some amazing beam and floor routines. We ended the competition with a 191.450. Our goal for this meet was to improve our team score from the Holiday Spectacular Intrasquad in December, and that is what we did! We went into the meet focused and knowing what we wanted to accomplish and we did just that! We are so excited to see what 2012 has in store for us, and we are ready to continue making history.
