Hello Pioneer Gymnastics fans!

This is Amy Winczura again reporting on this past week’s activities.  We have really been focusing on the little tenths we can gain back that will make a big difference in our overall team score.  Monday started out with a strong practice on all four events followed by some bike sprints to finish out the workout.  Tuesday was another strong practice.  Wednesday we finished out our last strong practice with an assignment day.  Each gymnast came into the gym, got their assignment done on the events that they train, and got out of the gym a little early to go home, pack, and get ahead on schoolwork.

On Thursday your Pioneers woke up bright and early and headed to Michigan.  We spent the day traveling for our first away meet of the season.  After traveling all day, we settled into the hotel and got some rest preparing for our first meet of the weekend.  Friday we competed at Eastern Michigan.  The meet did not go exactly as we had planned but we fought hard and walked away learning many things.  For some this was the first away meet of their career and it was an excellent experience, learning what it’s like to compete at another school as well as how to adjust to the new environment.

Gym
Saturday was a day off in Michigan before preparing for our second meet of the weekend.  We traveled to Frankenmuth, a festive and fun shopping and dining town, where we spent the day enjoying each other’s company (see photo).

Sunday was another meet, this time at Central Michigan.  We brought that fire and determination and came back with a great win beating the undefeated Chippewas!

Those team members who didn’t travel spent the weekend catching up and getting ahead on schoolwork, relaxing, and enjoying some time off.  For the Sunday meet we all went over to head coach Lisa Bowerman’s house where we watched the competition on a big screen TV.  It was excellent bonding time although very nerve-wracking because we were watching the meet from afar and were not there to support and congratulate our teammates.

That’s all for now. Check back next week for another update! Hope to see you all at our home meet this Friday, February 3 for our annual Think Pink Meet.
