Hello Pioneer Fans!
This was a really short practice week for us. We only had 3 days to work really hard in the gym and get a lot done before leaving for Missouri. Naturally, the team took to the short time frame very well and used the small amount of time that we had wisely. The next thing we knew we had to get all packed up to start our trip towards SEMO Wednesday night. We took the sleeper bus all the way to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It was actually really fun travelling on the sleeper bus. For us it felt like one big slumber party! All you had to do was lay down and fall asleep, then the next thing you know, you are there!
Upon arriving we enjoyed a nice breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then made our way to our hotel. The team was able to enjoy a nice relaxing day, along with a stretching and visualization session with the coaches. Sometimes it is just nice to have one of those days where you can rest your body, but mentally focus on the task at hand. Later that night we had an awesome dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Everyone had a great day, and really seemed to be excited and ready for the next day of competition.
Friday had arrived, and it was meet day. We started off the day on bars, while SEMO began on vault. With a good warm-up underneath our belts, we started the meet focused and ready to fight. Our first two events of bars and vault went very well where we posted some of our highest scores of the night. Things were still not perfect on these events, but we made the necessary adjustments and looked on. We moved to the next event, which was floor. Floor is always fun to watch, and even the SEMO crowd seemed to get into our routines. We had one small mistake on floor, but that did not stop the rest of the lineup. They finished the event strong taking us into beam.
We have had some trouble with beam in the past, but have done a solid job this year of keeping a tight mental focus and showing people what we can do on this event. We ended up having a couple falls on beam, causing us to actually count two of them to the final team score. When things like this happen it is hard to come back and try to stay strong. But I could tell already that after the meet everyone was ready and willing to get back into the gym and work really hard. We know that we are capable of so much more, and along with our continuing motto this year, we fight. We are ready work on the little things to be ready for conference championships.
Check back for more updates from MIC’s!
Thank you for all of your support!
