The moment you walk into the third floor of the DGL building, you know this is the TWU Gymnastics Practice Facility. Pictures and banners lauding the accomplishments of TWU gymnastics teams past and present fill every free space on the walls.
Â
The top floor of the DGL, however, wasn’t the first practice/competition site for the Pioneers. TWU used the Old Gym from 1980-84. When the DGL was renovated in 1984-85 - lights, elevators, air conditioning and much more were added - the Pioneers went back to the Old Gym and even used Hubbard Hall - the University’s former dining facility - for vaulting. Following the completion of the renovations, gymnastics returned to the DGL gym. It served as the program’s competition site until 1998, the year that the Pioneers moved into Kitty Magee Arena for their regular season meets.
DGL had a major renovation in the summer of 2014 with the addition of foam pits, resi-foam landing areas, in-ground tumbling trampoline,  new equipment, and additional space and new matting for all four events (vault, bars, beam, and floor).
The upgrades and additions for the facility include:
- Five balance beams, including two that dismount onto resi-pit landings
- Two sets of uneven bars, including one with a resi-pit landing
- A freestanding single rail over a loose foam pit
- A raised runway and vault table that lands into a loose foam pit
- Full-size competition spring floor plus a 60' tumble strip which finishes into a resi-pit landing
- A 50' in-ground tumbling trampoline which also lands into a resi-pit
The gymnastics office space in DGL also received upgrades with new furniture, paint, and carpet.
