2020-21 Graduate Assistantship in Communications  

Position: Graduate Assistant in Intercollegiate Athletics to assist the Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications.
 
Eligibility: This position can be filled by a graduate student seeking a master’s or doctoral degree. To receive a graduate assistantship, a student must be admitted to the TWU Graduate School and be accepted into a University graduate program of her/his choice.  
 
Conditions of Employment:  Graduate assistantships are nine-month appointments from September through May. The graduate assistant stipend is $9,981 ($1,109 per month). In-state tuition must be paid, but the additional cost for an out-of-state student may be waived provided the candidate meets the appropriate academic standards. The Director of Athletics has the option of hiring the GA for a tenth month (August) at the same monthly pay rate as their nine-month appointment.  
 
Responsibilities: The candidate will serve as the primary media contact for selected sports, maintain historical records, assist in the design and publication of gameday and seasonal publications, compile statistics, assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Athletics Department website, upkeep the department’s social media platforms and supervise a staff of student workers. Some travel might be required, as well as working events on nights and weekends. 
 
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in journalism, business, sports administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired, is required. 
 
Experience with in-game statistical software strongly preferred. Candidates should possess strong written and oral communication skills; proficiency in desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop), live streaming technology, new media applications (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), digital photography, and basic computer applications.
