Biography
AS A SOPHOMORE (2024)
Fernández-Montenegro Serrano and the Pioneers started off the season strong with a win over UCLA in thier first meet of the season. At UCLA, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano swam with Team Oakley, which placed second at the meet. She also swam in B Figures and placed fifth. In the second meet of the season in a Tri-Meet at UIW, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano placed seventh in B Figures and fifth in team with Team Oakley. Then, at the MPSF Championships, the Pioneers finished third. She swam with Team Oakley, which placed seventh at the Championships. She also placed ninth in B Figures. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano was named to the All-MPSF Second Team. In the next meet of the season, TWU made history, as they won the South Regional Competition for the first time in program history. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano swam with Team Oakley and claimed the win in team category to lead the Pioneers to victory. In B Figures at South Regionals, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano finished fourth. Finally, TWU closed the season at Collegiate Nationals and finished fourth. At Collegiate Nationals, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano placed 18th in Figures. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano also swam with Team Oakley, which finished eighth in the competition. At the conclusion of the season, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano earned All-MPSF Academic Team honors.
AS A FRESHMAN (2024)
In her first season with the Pioneers, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano made a positive impact on the team, helping guide the Pioneers to a historic third place finish at Collegiate Nationals. Swimming with on of the Pioneers' team routines, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano, in her first meet, helped the team place second on Jan. 22, just behind Stanford's team routine. In the same meet against Stanford, she swam a duet with her sister, Eva Fernández-Montenegro Serrano. In the second meet of the season against Wheaton, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano and her sister scored 37 points higher than the opening weekend to finish third in the event. Then, in team, the Pioneers won the event with a 141.4188. Then, in historical fashion on Feb. 12. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano placed fourth in duet and second in team, as the Pioneers defeated the 2023 National Champion, The Ohio State. On Feb. 19, the Pioneers placed third at the MPSF Championships. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano swam in team and placed sixth. Then, Fernández-Montenegro Serrano and the Pioneers closed the season in historical fashion at Collegiate Nationals. Fernández-Montenegro Serrano finished 12th in C figures. Then, she swam as a part of Team Oakley, which placed seventh.
PRIOR TO TWU
Fernández-Montenegro Serrano, the 17 year old Spaniard from Guadalajara, will add to the international experience within the Pioneers' roster. The incoming freshman grew up swimming for Club Alcarreño. Fernandez has balanced two sports simultaneously for a decade. She dedicated her youth to artistic swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. She participated in both disciplines for 12 and 10 years respectively.
