Biography

AS A SOPHOMORE (2025)
In her second season with the Pioneers, Schwickert continued to achieve excellence. She was once again named a USA Artistic Swimming All-American and a recipient of the USA Artistic Swimming All-Collegiate Award. In her academic pursuits, Schwickert was honored on the MPSF All-Academic Team, and she was selected as a 2025 Chancellor's Student Research Scholar by the TWU Research Committee of the Graduate Council. This season, Schwickert competed in solo, trio and team events. She helped the Pioneers start out the season with a win over UCLA. At the meet, Schwickert placed first in Collegiate A Figures, first in solo, first in trio with Eva Lafontan and Lisa Kizis and first with Team Minerva. In the second meet of the season against UIW and The Ohio State, Schwickert placed third in Collegiate A Figures, third in solo, fourth in trio and fourth in team. Then, at the 2025 MPSF Championships, she placed second in the solo competition and was named to the First Team All-MPSF. Additionally, she placed fourth in Collegiate A Figures, fifth in trio and fifth in team, as she helped lead the Pioneers to a third place finish at the MPSF Championships. Then, she helped guide the Pioneers to their first South Regional title in program history. She swam the trio with Kizis and Lafontan, which placed first. She also swam with Team Minerva, which placed first. The Pioneers closed out the season with a fourth place finish at Collegiate Nationals. At Nationals, Schwickert topped the Pioneers leader board in A Elements, placing 10th. Then, for the second straight season, Schwickert recorded a podium finish in the solo competition, placing third. In the trio competition, she placed fifth with a basemark-free swim. Finally, with Team Minerva, she finished seventh. Schwickert was also selected as the 2025 Artistic Swimming Outstanding Athlete of the Year at the 2025 Oakleys. 

AS A FRESHMAN (2024)

Schwickert had a historical season in her first year with the Pioneers. She was named a USAAS All-American and received the USAAS All-Collegiate Award. The awards are given based on the points accumulated at the 2024 U.S. Collegiate Championships. Schwickert, in her freshman season with TWU, competed in the solo competition and finished the highest of any Pioneer in program history with a third place finish. Additionally, she paired up with Ashley Latchford and Makayla Crichton for a trio performance and placed fifth, which marked the highest placement by a Pioneer trio. Finally, Schwickert also swam with Team Minerva, who finished fifth. She helped guide the Pioneers to the highest finish in program history at the U.S. Collegiate Championships, finishing third. Schwickert was also named to the All-MPSF Second Team. At the 2024 MPSF Championships on Feb. 19, Schwickert, who participated in the solo, trio and team at the MPSF conference championship placed third in solo, sixth in trio and fifth in the team routine and led the Pioneers to an overall third place finish. She opened the season on Jan. 22 against Stanford. In her first time swimming the technical elements routines, Schwickert placed 8th of 24 athletes with an impressive score of 81.01 and only 2.6 points away from the first place swimmer. She swam trio with Latchford and Crichton and placed third. She also swam duet with Crichton and also placed third. She also swam team with Crichton, Ashley Latchford, Candela Fidalgo Garcia, Regina Ramirez, Liberty Bowman, Kimberly Poitras and Maribella Falconer, placing third. On Jan. 29 in the Pioneers’ win over Wheaton, Schwickert swam duet and trio and placed first in both events. She also debuted her solo and finished third. Then, in their win over Ohio State on Feb. 12, Schwickert finished second in solo, first in trio and second in team. Prior to the season beginning, Schwickert was also named a Future Innovator of the Year at the 2023 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation.

PRIOR TO TWU
Maya Schwickert has been swimming for 14 years, two of those in Austin, Texas with the Austin Angelfish and twelve years in her hometown Scottsdale, Ariz. with Scottsdale Synchro. Schwickert has had a long and successful career in artistic swimming. She won the Senior High Point Individual Award at the US Junior/Senior Nationals for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. In 2022, Schwickert and her team also claimed the Senior High Point Team Award at the same competition. In addition to her decorated artistic swimming career, Schwickert has also shined in the classroom. She has won multiple Arizona Science & Engineering Fair awards where she has been competing since the 7th grade.
