PRIOR TO TWU: Played two years (2007, 2008) of college softball at North Central Texas College (NCTC) in Gainesville, Texas… the Lady Lions posted a stellar 84-35 record during Welch’s two years on campus…in 2007, NCTC went 39-19 and qualified for the Region V tournament…in 2008, the team was 45-16, won the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference title and advanced again to the Region V tournament.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a four-year (2003-06) member of the varsity softball team at Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, Texas…her coach at Birdville was former TWU softball head man Randy Porter…recognized as the District 6-4A Offensive Player of the Year in both 2005 and 2006…also picked for the All-District 6-4A second team in 2003 and the All-District 6-4A first team in 2004…in 2005, she grabbed a spot as the second baseman on the class 4A All-Region I team…chosen for the 2006 Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-Star team and the 2006 All-Northeast team…also played for the BHS basketball team in 2004 and 2005…graduated in May 2006 with a 3.7 grade point average…member of the National Honor Society in 2005 and 2006…also chosen for a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Academic team.
PERSONAL: A nursing entry major…born Jun. 20, 1988…the daughter of Fleeton and Kathy Welch…says her role model is her sister, Melinda…hobbies include shopping and hanging out with friends.
