After redshirting her freshman season, Nickie Engelbrecht is anxious to see some playing time... Coach Baker considers her one of the finest athletes she's coached in her career... Engelbrecht can crush the long ball and is steady on defense she learned about TWU reinstating its softball program through her aunt, Donna Harkness, who lives in Lewisville, just 15 miles south of Denton... prior to TWU, Engelbrecht is a 1994 graduate of Alberton High School and attended Vaal Triangle Technicon, a business school, in 1995... she has been a member of the South African Senior Softball Team, a selection made from the teams of the coutnry's five provinces... in 1996 for the Eastern Transvaal Provincial Colours, she had the second-highest batting average, .480... she was a utility player on the South African team in Olympic qualifying competition in Holland in 1995... she ranked sixth in batting in that tournament with a .423 average and made the all-star team... also in 1995 as a utility player, she represented South Africa in the African Cup in Zimbabwe.
