Cathy Jacobson, better known as "Jake," made a huge impact on the Pioneers both offensively and defensively... with her quick jump on the ball, she had 88 putouts and four assists from center field... she led the conference with a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000... with her speed on offense, she swiped 27 bases on 28 attempts, which ranked her third in the conference... Jacobson also led the Pioneers in home runs (2), total plate appearances (155 tied with Butterworth), and at bats (142)... she started all 46 games... she was voted first team all-conference, and with her 3.28 GPA, she was also selected Academic All-Conference... Jacobson was one of the original four who signed letters of intent to play TWU softball... she signed August 8, 1995 along with Karen Butterworth, Tiffanie Norris, and Jamie Slagle... a kinesiology major focused on teacher certification, she makes the TWU honor roll each semester... prior to TWU, Sergeant Jacobson spent five years as a military police officer in the U.S. Army stationed most recently in Hawaii... she played outfield three years with the All-Army Women's Softball Team (1992-94) and two years with the All-Armed Forces Women's Softball Team (1993-94)... only 15 soldier-athletes are selected from the entire armed forces worldwide for the All-Armed Forces team... a 1990 graduate of Fridley High School, Jacobson lettered three years in softball and basketball, and two years in volleyball... in softball, she was named all-state (outfield), all-metro as a leadoff hitter, and all-conference her senior year... she was co-captain of both the basketball and softball teams.
