Biography

AS A JUNIOR (2024-25)
During her second year with the Pioneers, she helped guide TWU to their third straight LSC Regular Season Title, second straight LSC Tournament Title and second straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen Appearance. During the season, the Pioneers were also ranked No. 1 in the nation. Kleinhans and the Pioneers also finished the season with their fewest losses in program history (2), and they set a new record for most consecutive wins in season with 27. They broke the program record for free throw percentage in a season, shooting 78% from the charity stripe, which broke the former record of 77.6% set last season. The Pioneers also broke the record for lowest opponent field goal percentage in season, holding teams to just 34.8% throughout the season – breaking the former record of 35.3% which was set during the 2015-16 season. Kleinhans was named the 2024-25 LSC Sixth Woman of the Year, becoming the first Pioneer to earn this award in program history. She was also named Third Team All-LSC, earning the first All-LSC honor of her career. She was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. She scored a career high 26 points on Feb. 27 against UT Tyler. She appeared in 33 games for the Pioneers, shot 39.4% from the field and 79.8% from the charity stripe. Kleinhans also grabbed 111 rebounds, dished out 74 assists, grabbed 52 steals and scored 308 points on the season. She also went perfect from the free throw line 12 times throughout the season. 

AS A SOPHOMORE (2023-24)

In her first year with the Pioneers, Kleinhans helped guide the Pioneers to a historic, record-breaking season. During the 2023-24 season, the Pioneers claimed the LSC Regular Season Title and East Division Title for the second consecutive year. Then, they won the LSC Tournament Title for the second time in program history and first time since 2011. TWU finished with their highest regional ranking, one, and hosted the South Central Regional Tournament for the first time in program history, claiming the 2024 South Central Regional Tournament Title for the first time in program history. After TWU advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history, they made more history by closing the season as the 2024 National Runner-Up. During the season, TWU set numerous records: most wins (34), fewest losses (5), most points in a season (2,826), most assists (603), most field goals made (978), most field goals attempted (2,141), most free throws made (666), and most free throws attempted (858). They closed the season with their highest national ranking in program history at No. 2. Kleinhans was named the LSC Tournament Most Valuable Player and the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Non-DI All-Texas Sixth Woman of the Year. She played 39 games for the Pioneers and started six, averaging 21.8 minutes per game. She shot 46.8% from the floor on the season and 32.9% from beyond the arc. She scored 339 points on the year, averaging 10 points per game. She also grabbed 157 total rebounds on the year, 105 assists and 58 steals. She ranked third on the team in field goal percentage and assists and second in steals. She scored a career high 21 points on March 8 against UAFS. She grabbed a career high 10 rebounds on Nov. 16 against Colorado School of Mines. She grabbed a career high seven assists on Feb. 10 against St. Mary’s and a career high seven steals on Feb. 8 against St. Edward’s.

PRIOR TO TWU 
Averee Kleinhans, from Nocona Texas, is a 5-9 guard who most recently played a season at University of Northern Colorado. During the 2022-23 season, Kleinhans started in 30 of 31 games and averaged 25.8 minutes per game. She grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game and averaged 3.2 assists and 8.5 points per game. On the defensive end, she recorded 43 steals on the season. In high school, she set a school record for points scored with 3,204, and she still holds the record for the most assists in a single game with 15. A multi-sport athlete, Kleinhans was a four-time all-state member in basketball and a three-time all-state honoree in volleyball. She additionally led her team to back-to-back-to back district titles and went to the regional quarterfinals three times
