Michael Madrid

The 2012-13 season will be Michael Madrid’s third as the Pioneers’ Assistant Basketball Coach.

In his first year during the 2010-11 season, Madrid helped coach the Pioneers to their first-ever Lone Star Conference Championship in school history.  TWU also advance to the NCAA Tournament - a first in program history.

Madrid came to TWU after spending five years at Lubbock Christian University including four years as an assistant coach. He helped the Lady Chaps advance to the NAIA National Championship Tournament all five seasons and capture the 2006-07 Sooner Athletic Conference title.

Prior to coaching at LCU, Madrid held several high school assistant coaching positions including stints at Lubbock High School (2003-05), Estacado High School (2002-03) and Portales High School (1998-02). He helped Portales High School capture the 2001 New Mexico 3A State Championship.

Madrid has also worked at numerous basketball camps in the past 12 years. He served as a camp counselor at the University of Oklahoma Men’s Basketball Camp (1998-2005), Texas Tech Men’s Basketball Camp (2000-2005) and Lubbock Christian Women’s Basketball Camp (2005-2010).

Madrid earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education in 1998 and Master of Science degree in Sports Administration in 2001 from Eastern New Mexico University. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Education Administration from Lubbock Christian University in 2007.
