AS A JUNIOR (2023-24)
In her first year with the Pioneers, Carr helped guide the Pioneers to a historic, record-breaking season. During the 2023-24 season, the Pioneers claimed the LSC Regular Season Title and East Division Title for the second consecutive year. Then, they won the LSC Tournament Title for the second time in program history and first time since 2011. TWU finished with their highest regional ranking, one, and hosted the South Central Regional Tournament for the first time in program history, claiming the 2024 South Central Regional Tournament Title for the first time in program history. After TWU advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history, they made more history by closing the season as the 2024 National Runner-Up. During the season, TWU set numerous records: most wins (34), fewest losses (5), most points in a season (2,826), most assists (603), most field goals made (978), most field goals attempted (2,141), most free throws made (666), and most free throws attempted (858). They closed the season with their highest national ranking in program history at No. 2. Carr played 478 minutes for the Pioneers during the season, averaging 3.4 points per game, two rebounds per game and shot 44.1% from the field. She scored a TWU career high 12 points on March 9 against TAMIU. She also grabbed a TWU career high seven rebounds on Jan. 13 against St. Edward’s and a TWU career high three steals on Jan. 4 against UAFS. She started one game for the Pioneers and appeared in 33, averaging 12.9 minutes per game.
PRIOR TO TWU
Gionna Carr, from Stillwater, Minnesota, brings collegiate experience to the TWU squad. During her freshman year, she played for Tennessee State University, before transferring to Panola College. At Panola, Carr started in 30 of the Fillies' 31 games. She grabbed 186 rebounds and 46 steals in her sophomore season. An offensive force and talented distributor, she dished 69 assists during the 2022-23 season and scored 285 points on the year. Also a lockdown defender, Carr finished the season with 18 blocks. During her freshman season at Tennessee State, Carr appeared in 14 games for the Tigers. She grabbed a season high five rebounds against Belmont. Carr attended Stillwater High School, where she lettered in basketball all four years. At Stillwater, she was a three-time Defensive MVP and named All-Conference in 2021. She also guided her team to back-to-back state championship appearances in 2020 and 2021. Additionally, the love of basketball runs in her family, as Carr’s father, Tony Carr, still stands as the all-time leading scorer in University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire history. In the 1982 NBA Draft, her father was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks.
