AS A SOPHOMORE (2025)
Isbell, in her second season with the Pioneers, helped guide TWU to their 13th National Title, as the Pioneers claimed the 2025 WCGNIC National Championship. The Pioneers also broke the record for highest team score with a 196.600 in Kitty Magee Arena on March 9 against NC State. Additionally, the Pioneers set a record for highest score in a season opener, scoring a 194.000 to open the season at home against Centenary. Isbell competed in every meet for the Pioneers on vault and floor. Then, she entered the beam lineup in the latter part of the season and competed in nine meets on beam for TWU. She matched her career high of 9.850 on vault at the 2025 MIC Championships. Then, she set a career high on beam of 9.875 at the WCGNIC Finals on April 12, not only guiding the Pioneers to a National Title, but also aiding in breaking the TWU beam record with a 49.325 total on beam. Isbell matched her career high on floor of 9.825 four times throughout the season. During the season, she was named the MIC Gymnast of the Week for the first time in her career after her performances during the Pioneeers record-breaking meet against NC State on March 9. On March 21, Isbell helped guide the Pioneers to a second place finish at the 2025 MIC Championships. She placed fifth on floor to earn All-MIC Second Team honors, second on vault to earn All-MIC First Team honors and fifth on beam to earn All-MIC Second Team honors. At the WCGNIC Semifinals, Isbell scored a 9.775 on vault to advance to the event finals and be named a WCGNIC First Team All-American. Isbell was named a 2025 MIC Scholar-Athlete, 2025 WCGNIC Scholar-Athlete, and she was named to the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.Â
AS A FRESHMAN (2024)
In her first year with the Pioneers, Isbell competed in 14 meets on vault and two on floor. She scored a career high 9.850 on vault at the USAG Championships Finals on April 13. In her career debut in the floor lineup, she scored a career high on floor of a 9.800 at USAG Semifinals on April 12. After scoring a 9.825 on vault at the USAG Championships Semifinals, Isbell qualified for the USAG Individual Event Finals on vault. At the event finals, she scored a 9.775 on vault to place sixth and earn USAG First Team All-American honors on vault. She was also named a USAG Scholar Athlete and a MIC Scholar Athlete. Isbeel helped guide the Pioneers to a record setting year, as TWU scored their highest score in a season opener, highest score in a home opener, scored their second highest score in program history (March 3), set a new floor record (Feb. 3), set a new home crowd record (March 3) and recorded their highest NQS in program history. The Pioneers closed the season with a second place finish at the 2024 MIC Championship and the 2024 USA Gymnastics National Championships.
PRIOR TO TWU
From Reading, Massachusetts, Sophia Isbell has competed in gymnastics for 11 years. She attended Reading Memorial High School and also participated in gymnastics with Reading Gymnastics Academy. She earned All-Scholastic honors all four years of high school. Currently, she holds the second highest all-around score in gymnastics in RMHS program history. Isbell is also a two-time Middlesex League Champion and a fourth place finisher in all-around at the Level 10 Massachusetts State Championship. A member of the National Honor Society, Isbell has earned Honor Roll accolades for three years. She also enjoys volunteering as a Special Olympics gymnastics coach.
