AS A SOPHOMORE (2025)

Hernandez, in her second season with the Pioneers, helped guide TWU to their 13th National Title, as the Pioneers claimed the 2025 WCGNIC National Championship. The Pioneers also broke the record for highest team score with a 196.600 in Kitty Magee Arena on March 9 against NC State. Additionally, the Pioneers set a record for highest score in a season opener, scoring a 194.000 to open the season at home against Centenary. During her sophomore season, Hernandez was a mainstay on beam and floor, competing in every meet on both events. She hit a career high on beam at the WCGNIC Team Finals on April 12 of a 9.900, not only guiding the Pioneers to a National Title, but also aiding in breaking the TWU beam record with a 49.325 total on beam. She set a season high of 9.875 twice during the season on March 9 against NC State on on Feb. 28 at Clemson. She also helped guide TWU to a second place finish at the MIC Championships, placing second on floor and fifth on beam to earn All-MIC First Team honors on floor and Second Team honors on beam. At the WCGNIC Semifinals, she scored high scores on both events to advance to the event finals on both beam and floor, earning WCGNIC First Team All-America honors on both events. 

AS A FRESHMAN (2024)

In her first year with the Pioneers, Hernandez made history. On Feb. 3, she matched the program's individual record on floor with a career high 9.950 and helped lead the Pioneers to their highest floor score in program history. On Feb. 3, she also recorded her career high on beam, scoring a 9.775. She competed beam and floor in all 14 meets for TWU and competed vault once on Feb. 3, scoring a 9.600. At the 2024 MIC Championships, she scored a 9.850 on floor to claim First Team All-MIC honors. During the season, she was also named a two-time MIC Newcomer of the Week. She was named a WCGA First Team All-American for boasting the highest NQS in Division II on floor. At the USAG Championships, she scored a 9.800 on beam on semifinals day to claim USAG Second Team All-American honors. She was also named a USAG Scholar Athlete and a MIC Scholar Athlete. Hernandez helped guide the Pioneers to a record setting year, as TWU scored their highest score in a season opener, highest score in a home opener, scored their second highest score in program history (March 3), set a new floor record (Feb. 3), set a new home crowd record (March 3) and recorded their highest NQS in program history. The Pioneers closed the season with a second place finish at the 2024 MIC Championship and the 2024 USA Gymnastics National Championships. Following the regular season, she posted the second highest NQS in Division II on floor to earn WCGA Second Team All-America honors. Hernandez was named a 2025 MIC Scholar-Athlete, a 2025 WCGNIC Scholar-Athlete and she was named to the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

PRIOR TO TWU

A member of Sonshine Gymnastics from 2008-18 and, most recently, a member of Bull City Gymnastics, Sophie Hernandez has competed in gymnastics for 13 years. She is a four-time State and Regional Qualifier. In 2019, she was the Atlanta Centennial Classic Bar Champion, the Greensboro Gymnastics Invitational All-Around and Floor Champion, and the Excalibur Cup Floor Champion. In 2022, she was the Atlanta Centennial Classic Bar Champion and second place all-around finisher. She was also a 2022 North Carolina State Champion. Hernandez was also honored for her academic achievements, being a three-time Honor Roll student. Hernandez will be majoring in Sports Management at TWU.
