Currently, Jess Newman serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.

Newman has served as the Pioneers Associate Head Athletic Trainer since July 2021. During this time, she oversaw aspects of health care for various TWU athletic teams. Most recently, she served as the primary trainer for wrestling and softball, while assisting on the care of all nine Pioneer teams. 


Prior to coming to TWU in 2021, Newman worked at Colorado School of Mines as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for seven years, where she was the primary trainer for men's soccer, baseball and men's and women's swim. She additionally oversaw the training facility inventory and budget and managed day-to-day operations. As the primary for men's soccer, Newman provided host athletic training services for three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournaments and two NCAA South Central Regional Tournaments.

Before Colorado School of Mines, Newman attended the University of Idaho where she earned her Master of Science in Movement and Leisure Sciences and worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, assisting in the health coverage of Idaho's 16 NCAA Division I athletic teams.

Newman earned her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, from New Mexico State University. While earning her degree, she worked as an athletic training student assistant. 

Newman continues to work to grow her athletic training knowledge and expertise through her membership with the National Athletic Trainers' Association, where she is board certified, Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association and Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association.
