Texas Woman's University Athletics

A veteran of collegiate athletics with more than 30 years of experience, Sandee Mott was appointed as Texas Woman’s fifth director of athletics on January 2, 2020. 

Since her arrival, Pioneer Athletics has experienced significant growth, doubling in size with the addition of the Pioneer Pride Dance Team and the launch of Artistic Swimming, STUNT, and Wrestling. In 2021, she reinstated the Pioneer Club, which has since grown to more than 200 members. The Pioneer Club provides fans with meaningful ways to support student-athletes while enjoying exclusive benefits such as priority access to tickets, special events, and recognition opportunities.

The Pioneers have experienced success during Mott’s tenure: three National Championships, one National Runner-Up, six NCAA appearances, six conference titles, twelve LSC tournament appearances, dozens of student-athletes garnering individual conference, regional and national awards.  As important, TWU has won the Lone Star Conference Balfour Academic Excellence Award for the past three years.  For the 2024-25 academic year the Pioneers earned a 3.603 cumulative GPA for the athletic department.   Additionally, Texas Woman’s placed 5th for community service hours for NCAA DII by serving the TWU and Denton communities with 2,946 hours of service in 2024-25.  Mott has a heart for the student-athlete experience and believes that the role of collegiate athletics is to empower student-athletes to be champions in the classroom, in competition and in their communities.  

Beyond campus, Mott is completing her fourth year of service on the NCAA DII Management Council, where she has also contributed as a member of the Nominating, Championships, and Legislation Committees, and served as Chair of the Identity Subcommittee.

Her leadership has been recognized nationally, earning her Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Division II Administrator of the Year honors three times (2020, 2021, and 2025). In 2023, USA Cheer named her the Outstanding Contributor for STUNT in recognition of her instrumental role in helping the sport achieve NCAA Emerging Sport for Women status.  

During her career as an administrator and a coach, insert name has held a variety of positions, primarily with NCAA Division II institutions. Additionally, she has held key leadership roles on institutional, conference and national committees, including serving as chair on NCAA Division II women's golf and basketball committees.  

At the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS) from 2016 through December 2019, Mott oversaw baseball, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, golf and softball programs as well as the compliance and media relations department while serving as senior associate director of athletics. During her tenure, women's soccer and both golf programs qualified for NCAA post-season play, and baseball and women's lacrosse teams were added.

As the director of athletics at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Mott oversaw an expansion of the athletics program from 2012-16. The Wildcats added seven programs as a member of the NAIA, moved all head coaches to full-time status and added two full-time athletic trainers. She implemented a corporate partnership program, a booster club and camp program. Mott served on the NAIA National Administrative Council and the Association of Independent Institutions Executive Committee.

Mott was previously the associate director of athletics at Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2009-12, where she had direct oversight over men’s soccer, women’s basketball and baseball. She served as the chair of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Committee. Mott oversaw the department’s compliance program and served as the administrator on site for multiple conference and NCAA postseason events.

Mott spent four years as the associate commissioner for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference from 2005-09, where she oversaw compliance and business operations and interacted with every constituent group in the conference. She implemented the RMAC officials’ evaluation program in coordination with the seven sport coordinators and 500 officials who worked conference events. Mott also oversaw the organization and execution of RMAC championship events and was the co-host for the RMAC Radio Show.  In 2021, Mott was honored by The RMAC Women’s Basketball Officials organization with a Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Mott was the assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator at Western State Colorado University from 2001-05, and also served as head women’s basketball coach and adjunct instructor from 2000-05. She coordinated and started the Western State Student-Athlete Advisory Council and served on various departmental and campus committees while managing the women’s basketball program.

Mott was the head women’s basketball coach and adjunct instructor at Montana Tech University from 1996-2000, and was the head coach at Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kan., from 1993-96.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in English education from Friends University of Kansas in 1991 and her master’s degree in English from Fort Hays State University in 1997. Mott resides in Denton.
