TWU soccer loses 1-0 at #10 Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Oct. 5) – The TWU soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at #10 Angelo State on Sunday afternoon at ASU Soccer Complex.  The Pioneers are now 7-3-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State outshot the Pioneers 8-4 in the first half including 3-1 shots on goal but neither team was able to find the net.  At halftime, the game was scoreless.

The Rambelles scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute.  ASU's Dakota Briseno scored her first goal of the season on a cross from Tiffany Dang.

Angelo State outshot the Pioneers 16-7 in the game including 8-3 in the shots on goal.  ASU also had a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

"We played really well in the first half and had couple of opportunities but could not capitalize," said TWU head coach Babak Abouzar.  "Their goal came down to a mental lapse on defense.  We left a girl wide open.  Angelo State is a very good team and obviously couldn't afford to give them opportunities like that."

Junior goalkeeper Ariana Morrison played all 90 minutes in the net for TWU and made seven saves.  The Pioneers were led by sophomore Natalia Diaz and freshman Megan Coppedge on offense with two shot apiece.

The Pioneers will return to action when they travel east on Hwy. 380 to Commerce, TX., to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Oct. 9.  The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m
