COMMERCE, Texas (Oct. 9) – The TWU soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the host Texas A&M-Commerce Lions Thursday night at Lion Soccer Field. The Pioneers are now 7-4-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in the Lone Star Conference.
Both teams traded shots through the first 35 minutes in the first half. The Lions scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute when Ashley Phillips scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick.
The Pioneers regrouped at the break and outshot A&M-Commerce in the second half by a 5-4 margin, including, 4-1 in shots on goal, but could not find the net. TWU also had a 9-7 advantage in corner kicks for the game, including 4-2 in the second half.
"We played well and had opportunities but could not find the net," said TWU head coach
Babak Abouzar. "Texas A&M-Commerce is tough team to play on their home field and we outshot them in shots on goal. We finished our three-game road trip and we are definitely ready to play the next four games at home."

TWU will return to action when they host Dallas Baptist in their final non-conference game of the regular season this Saturday, Oct. 11. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the TWU Soccer Field. It will be "Youth Soccer Appreciation Night" as all youth soccer players who wear their jersey to the game will be admitted free.
