SAN ANGELO, Texas (Oct. 30) – The TWU soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at #3 Angelo State Friday night. The Pioneers are now 9-6-2 on the season and 4-4-1 in the Lone Star Conference.
In the first 45 minutes both teams got off five shots each and one shot on goal. However, the Rambelles capitalized on their one shot in the third minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead. ASU's Molly Warren found the net on a header to the far post on a cross from Kathleen Keoughan.
The Pioneers continued to go toe-to-toe with the No. 3 team in the nation and matched shot for shot throughout the second half but could not get the equalizer. TWU got off seven shots including two on goal but neither found the net.
"We played really well against one of the best team in country," said TWU head coach
Babak Abouzar. "We made one mistake and they capitalized. Angelo State hasn't lost at home in couple of years and we were so close in getting at least a result. We have one game left in the regular season and we need to finish strong."
The Pioneers' sophomore
Chelsea Martin led the team with three shots. Senior
Ariana Morrison played all 90 minutes in the net and made three saves.
ASU had a slight 13-12 advantage in shots and both teams recorded three shots on goal. The Rambelles also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pioneers will now head to Wichita Falls, TX, to close out the regular season. TWU will face Midwestern State on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. at MSU Soccer Field.
