CANYON, Texas (Oct. 9) – The TWU soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the host West Texas A&M Friday night. The Pioneers are now 5-4-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in the Lone Star Conference.
Both teams traded shots through the first 35 minutes of the game. The Lady Buffs scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute when Karyn Forbes scored her second goal of the season. She found the far post on an assist by Ashlee Craig.
Both teams again traded shots early in the second half but neither team was able to create any scoring opportunities in the second half. TWU had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks but could not find the net. The Pioneers also had a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
"It wasn't a bad performance but we struggled with winning the balls in the midfield," said TWU head coach
Babak Abouzar. "We weren't able to jump start our offense and WT was able to do that by winning those balls in the midfield. Our defense played well and held them to just one goal."
Senior
Natalia Diaz and junior
Chelsea Martin led the team with three shots each. Senior goalkeeper
Ariana Morrison played all 90 minutes and made three saves in the net.
TWU will now head to Portales, NM, to face Easter New Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 11. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CST).
