In the first set both teams split the first 26 points before Cameron went on a 5-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. The Pioneers rallied to cut the deficit to two points, 22-20, but CU captured a three-point win after posting a .348 hitting percentage as a team.
In the second it was all Pioneers as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. TWU continued to build on its lead throughout the set. Leading 21-14, the Pioneers scored four straight points to capture an 11-point win.
TWU carried the momentum in the third and built an early 5-1 lead. The Pioneers led by as many as eight points, 16-8, before Cameron went on a 6-1 run to make it 17-14. TWU pushed the lead to five points on back-to-back points and then split the next 10 points to capture the set by six points.
In the fourth set it was the Aggies that jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and later used a 7-1 run to take a 15-7 lead. Cameron extended its lead to 10 points, 19-9, before forcing a fifth set with a 25-15 victory.
In the final set the Aggies again jumped out to an early 4-2 lead but TWU responded with a 6-1 run to go on top 8-5. After Cameron scored back-to-back points, the Pioneers responded with seven straight points to close out the game.
"Hillary and Sara played a great game offensively and Mallory was huge on defense," said TWU head coach
Shelly Barberee. "Our hitting percentage was good in the first three sets and then we struggled in fourth. Cameron is a good team and we knew it was going to be a battle. This is a big win because you don't want to lose back-to-back five-set matches at home."
The Pioneers will return to action when they play their final home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 7 against Midwestern State. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. The four seniors – Shaffer, Redwine, Talkington and
Brittany Land – will be honored in a Senior Day Ceremony prior to the game.
