SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 22) – The TWU softball team dropped its final game at the Rattler Invitational to the host #4 St. Mary's, 8-0, in five innings. The Pioneers are now 7-10 on the season.
The Rattlers recorded just six hits but drew nine walks in the five innings. STMU scored four runs in the second, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Pioneers started the game with back-to-back singles but stranded both runners. TWU struggled on offense and managed just one hit in the final four innings.
"We started great with two hits and then couldn't get anything going after that offensively," said TWU head coach
Genny Stidham. "Our pitchers also struggled and walked too many batters. Against a good team like St. Mary's, you can't put runners on base with walks and expect to win the game."
TWU senior
Kendra Sancet was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Pioneers on offense with a .385 batting average, .769 slugging percentage and .471 on base percentage in the five tournament games. She also had two doubles and a home run during the weekend.
The Pioneers will return to action when they make their home debut next weekend. TWU will host the 2015 Best Western Premier Spring Fling on Feb.27-28 at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers will play two games each day at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m., against St. Edward's and Emporia State.
