TWU Soccer Suffers 1-0 Loss at Colorado State-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 11) – The TWU soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at Colorado State-Pueblo Friday night at Gonzales Stadium.  The ThunderWolves captured a 1-0 win with a second half goal.
 
In the first 45 minutes, the Pioneer created scoring opportunities by outshooting the host 8-3 including 5-0 on goal but could not find the net.  After both teams traded shots that went wide early in the game, TWU picked up its intensity and got of seven shots in the final 25 minutes including five on the net but none crossed the goal line as they settled for a 0-0 tie at the break.
 
In the second half CSUP regrouped and matched the Pioneers shot for shot.  The ThunderWolves put seven of their nine shots in the second half on net.  CSUP was held without a corner kick until the 75th minute but when they got one the ThunderWolves took advantage.  CSUP's Jessica Westhoff found the net on a header off the corner kick to give them a 1-0 lead.  TWU got off a pair of shots in the final minutes but could not find the net.
 
The Pioneers finished the game with a 16-12 advantage in shots and 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Senior Ariana Morrison played all 90 minutes in the net and made six saves while taking the loss.  Senior Natalia Diaz led the team on offense with four shots.
 
TWU is now 2-1-1 on the season and will travel to Golden, CO, to face Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, Sept. 13.  The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (CST) at Stermole Soccer Stadium.
