TWU Soccer Defeats Dallas Baptist on the Road

DALLAS, Texas (Sept. 19) – The TWU soccer team defeated the host Dallas Baptist, 1-0, Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field.  Junior forward Nancy Chavez scored the Pioneers' goal.

The win snapped a four-game winless streak and a three-game losing streak against DBU.

After both teams traded shots early in the game, Chavez scored her first goal of the season in the 25 minute to put TWU on top 1-0.  The Patriots put pressure in the final two minutes of the first half getting off three shots including two on goal but TWU defended well to keep the lead at the break.

Dallas Baptist outshot the Pioneers, 13-4, in the second half but only managed three shots on goal.  Senior goalkeeper Ariana Morrison stopped all nine shots she faced in the net for her third shutout of the season.

DBU finished the game with a 22-7 advantage in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.  The Pioneers got off five of their seven shots on goal.

"It was a total team effort starting with Ariana in the goal," said TWU head coach Babak Abouzar.  "Both teams had scoring opportunities and we were able to capitalize on one of our chances.  We picked up couple of good road wins this week and we need to carry the momentum into next week when we open our conference schedule."

The Pioneers will return to action when they open their Lone Star Conference schedule at home on Friday, Sept. 25.  TWU will host Midwestern State at 7:30 p.m. at TWU Soccer Field.
