Two double-doubles not enough in 75-69 loss at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 27) – TWU junior Erin Maxwell and sophomore Alexis Nezianya both recorded double-doubles but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers fell to the host Cameron, 75-69.  TWU is now 16-5 overall and 6-3 in the Lone Star Conference.

Junior guard Kenesha Saygo led four Pioneers in double figures with a game-high 21 points.  Maxwell recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Nezianya posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior Deja Pointer added 10 points including 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Both teams went back and forth throughout the game with four ties and nine lead changes and neither team had a double-digit lead.  The Pioneers' biggest lead came early in the first quarter when they took a 9-3 lead at 7:09 mark.  Cameron's biggest lead came in the third quarter when the Aggies went on top 50-43 at 6:11 mark.

In the fourth quarter both teams stayed within a possession until Cameron took a 68-63 lead with 2:47 left on the clock. The Pioneers rallied to make it a two-point game, 69-67, but CU pushed the lead back to five on an old-fashioned three-point play.  Maxwell made a layup to cut the deficit to three with 47 seconds left in the game but the Aggies knocked down a three on the other end to seal the win.

"Another tough loss on the road," said TWU head coach Beth Jillson.  "Both teams played hard and it was close throughout the game.  We shot the ball well in the first half but struggled in the second half.  We had good looks but could not finish."

The Pioneers will return to action when they travel to Wichita Falls, TX, to face Midwestern State on Sunday, Jan. 31.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
