DENTON, Texas (Oct. 1, 2016) – Texas Woman's University registered its first Lone Star Conference sweep of the season and extended their winning streak to a season-best three matches in a 3-0 victory against Cameron Saturday afternoon inside Kitty Magee Arena.
Sara Oxford tallied a double-double with her game-high14 kills and 13 digs, while
Anna McGee added 13 kills at a .429 clip.
Katy Ranes handed out a game-high 42 assists, and
Emma Petolick handled a game-high 17 digs in the three-set win (25-20, 25-23, 25-17).
Oxford recorded the first point of the afternoon after sailing a kill off of a blocker and kept TWU's lead at 9-8 on another kill. Four straight points extended the lead to 13-8, and a
Briley Cole kill upped the margin to 18-11. The Aggies (0-13, 0-7 LSC) pulled close with a 5-0 run before
Kerstin Jenkins and Cole produced kills for a 20-16 edge. A TWU service error did not help the cause, but an Oxford kill and dump from Ranes increased the lead to 22-17 as TWU (6-9, 2-4 LSC) went on to win by five.
Set two was a back-and-forth battle that had Cameron achieve several leads throughout with the first coming after back-to-back kills to go up 3-2. Ranes set another dump over the net for the first TWU lead at 8-7 before consecutive attack errors gave the Aggies back the advantage at 13-12. A CU kill and two more Pioneer mishaps put the Aggies in front at 16-13 and boosted the lead to 23-18. As they did last night against Midwestern Sate, TWU posed an improbable rally started by McGee who threw down a kill from the outside and then teamed up with
Courtney Noel for a block. Two Aggie errors were timely for the Pioneers as was a service ace by Oxford to tie the set at 23-23. A sky-high tip by McGee put TWU at match point, and a CU attack error put the Pioneers up two sets in the match.
The third set played close early on at 4-4 before TWU accumulated five straight points off of three CU errors, an Oxford kill and a
Jade Akins service ace. The Aggies responded with two kills and a service ace along with a pair of Pioneer attack errors to pull within 10-9. TWU strung together four straight for a 15-10 lead and increased it to 17-11 on an ace by Ranes. A kill by Jenkins from the outside preceded a block and two kills from Oxford, and a kill by
Caroline Noel off of the CU blockers extended the margin to 23-14. The Aggies tacked on three more scores, but it was not enough as Oxford put the match away on a kill from the middle.
The Pioneers make their longest road trip of the season next week traveling to Western New Mexico for a Friday match at 7 p.m. (CST) and at Eastern New Mexico Saturday at 7 p.m.
