About the Pioneers
TWU notched its third Lone Star Conference win with a 3-2 victory at Cameron on Tuesday. The match marked the third in a row where the Pioneers pushed the contest to five sets, and the CU win was the first LSC victory for TWU in a five-set match. Against the Aggies, Makayla Mayfield broke a 21-year old Pioneer single-game record with 40 digs. Mayfield's career-high broke Michelle Murray's mark of 39, also set against Cameron, on Sept. 22, 1995, in another five-set win.

ASU, ranked 10th in this week's AVCA poll, have won five matches in a row, four of which were 3-0 sweeps. The single LSC loss by ASU was to West Texas A&M in five sets on Sept. 24. The Belles rank sixth in the nation in kills per set (14.37), eighth in hitting percentage (0.267) and 10th in assists per set (13.22).

History between Texas Woman's and Angelo State
The Belles hold a 36-15 all-time record over the Pioneers, a series that began in 1976 with ASU taking a 2-0 win. The Belles have won the past three meetings, including the first LSC game of this season in a 3-0 sweep. Last season the teams squared off twice, with the Belles winning a five-set match in Denton and then knocking TWU out of the conference tournament in the second round.

Mayfield breaks decades-old Pioneer record in five-set victory
LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 18, 2016) – Texas Woman's University controlled the first two sets against Cameron but dropped the next pair before pulling out a five-set victory in which Makayla Mayfield broke a 21-year old Pioneer single-game record with 40 digs Tuesday night inside Aggie Gym.

Mayfield's career-high broke Michelle Murray's mark of 39, also set against Cameron, on Sept. 22, 1995, in another five-set win. The victory marks the first time this season the Pioneers have defeated a Lone Star Conference opponent in five sets (25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 15-9).

Sara Oxford's double-double of 17 kills and 14 digs along with six blocks led TWU (7-13, 3-8 LSC). Kerstin Jenkins and Jade Akins each totaled career-highs in kills with 14 and 13, respectively. Mary Kate Hyde also registered a career-best with 60 assists.

The evening got off to a rough start for TWU as the Aggies (2-18, 0-11 LSC) jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but the Pioneers closed the set on a 16-6 run. TWU took the early lead in set two at 8-3 before Cameron closed to within 13-12. The Pioneers held a slim advantage at 17-16 but finished the frame on an 8-2 run.

The Aggies broke a 17-all tie in set three with four straight points for a 21-17 edge and eventually took set three to prevent a TWU sweep. In set four, Cameron held leads at 13-7 and 16-10 and extended the margin to 21-14 before taking down TWU to force a fifth set.

Successive kills by Hyde and Oxford gave the Pioneers a 5-2 lead in the final set, and another by Oxford put TWU up 7-4. A kill by Jenkins and block by Courtney Noel and Haley Collins upped the lead to 10-5. Another kill by Hyde and a service ace by Bailey French preceded a final block by Oxford and Hyde for the win.
