Barry (4-6, 2-3 Sunshine State) opened the contest with a jumper and three-pointer before the Pioneers countered with buckets by
Andrea Mapua and Saygo along with a pair of free throws from
Alexis Nezianya to take their first lead at 6-5. A field goal in the paint by
Grace Mitchell TWU up 14-11 with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter before a layup by the Buccaneers at the buzzer knotted the score at 16-all.
A 20-20 tie midway through the second period turned in favor of TWU as six Pioneers combined for 13 points to jump ahead 33-20 before another Barry buzzer-beater sent the teams into the locker rooms with TWU up 11.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Saygo and Rodriguez increased the margin to 41-26, and a Spector jumper kept it a 15-point game with less than four minutes left in the third. A six-point run whittled the Pioneer lead to 48-39, but a layup by Mitchell and three by Spector concluded the quarter with TWU leading 53-39.
The Bucs nailed a trio of three-pointers less than a minute into the fourth to cut the advantage to 53-48. Rodriguez came through with a three of her own, Saygo connected on two from the line, and Spector and Mapua delivered layups to increase TWU's lead to 63-50 with less than five minutes left to play. Barry hit two free throws to pull within 11 with three minutes to go, but the Pioneer defense buckled down to render the Bucs scoreless the remainder of the contest.

RICHARDSON, Texas (Dec. 14, 2016) –
Kenesha Saygo of Texas Woman's University was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 23.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in wins over No. 17 West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
Against the Lady Buffs, the senior posted a season and game-high 28 points and delivered 19 versus the Falcons.
