DENTON, Texas (Oct. 27, 2026) – The Texas Woman's basketball team enters the 2026-27 season ranked No. 6 nationally in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.

The Pioneers received 432 points in the preseason poll after finishing the 2025-26 campaign with a 31-2 overall record and a perfect 20-0 mark in Lone Star Conference play. TWU also finished last season ranked No. 6 nationally by the WBCA.

Texas Woman's enters the 2026-27 season following another successful campaign, capturing their fourth consecutive LSC Regular Season Championship and third straight LSC Tournament Championship.

TWU also advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Sweet 16 after earning the No. 1 seed and hosting the regional tournament.

Offensively, TWU averaged 69.4 points per game last season while shooting 44.2% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. The Pioneers also connected on 77.8% of their free throw attempts and averaged 13.4 assists per contest.

Defensively, the Pioneers held opponents to just 54.5 points per game and limited opposing teams to 34.6% shooting from the field. TWU also averaged 39.1 rebounds per game while holding opponents to 32.3, finishing the season with a plus-6.8 rebounding margin.

Grand Valley State (36-1) claimed the top spot in the preseason poll with 575 points and 23 first-place votes, followed by Colorado Mesa (37-2) at No. 2 and Alabama-Huntsville (32-6) at No. 3. 

Indiana (Pa.) (31-4) checked in at No. 4, while Cal Poly Pomona (29-5) rounded out the top five.

Fellow LSC programs West Texas A&M (28-5) and UT Tyler (22-11) joined the Pioneers in the national rankings at No. 20 and No. 24, respectively. 

Lubbock Christian (23-8) also received votes in the preseason poll.

The Pioneers were selected first in the LSC Preseason Poll. TWU will begin its 2026-27 campaign Friday, Oct. 30, against MSU Denver at noon. 

The matchup will take place at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in Canyon, Texas.
