CANYON, Texas (Feb. 14) – The TWU softball picked up a run-rule win against Colorado State-Pueblo, 12-1, in five innings on the final day at WT Invitational Sunday afternoon. With the win the Pioneers improved to 9-7 on the season.
TWU took advantage of eight ThunderWolves' errors and scored 11 unearned runs. The Pioneers were led by junior
Logan Polasek who went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Senior
Tealey Farquhar scored four times while junior
Morgan Harrison crossed the plate three times.
The Pioneers scored three in the top of the first on a RBI single by Polasek and a two-RBI double by junior
Katy Stephens. TWU added two more in the second on a RBI double by Farquhar and a bases loaded walk by sophomore
Amanda Gray.
The Pioneers took a 9-0 lead in the third with four runs. Polasek drove in two runs while junior
Nicole Nordie brought home a run. TWU added its final three runs in the fourth while Polasek picked up another RBI. CSU-Pueblo scored its only run in the bottom of third.
Junior
Tori Bice started in the circle and pitched three hitless innings for her sixth win of the year. Junior
Hailey Dixon pitched the remaining two innings.
"We had a good weekend with four regional wins," said TWU head coach
Genny Stidham. "We pitched well and our offense really clicked with timely hits. Defensively we made some mistakes but we will continue to work on that in practice. Overall I am very happy with the results this weekend."
The Pioneers will have a bye next week and will return to action when they make their home debut on Sunday, Feb. 28. TWU will host a doubleheader against St. Edward's at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
