Bice Pitches to a Doubleheader Sweep at #25 Tarleton State

STEPHENSVILLE, Texas (Mar. 5) –TWU junior pitcher Tori Bice pitched two complete games and helped the Pioneers to a doubleheader sweep at #25 Tarleton State, 5-0 and 6-5.  With the wins TWU improved to 14-8 on the season and 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

In game one, junior Tori Bice tossed a complete-game shut for her ninth win of the season.  She struck out four batters in the game.  Senior Tealey Farquhar scored two of the five Pioneer runs.

Farquhar led off the game with a double and later scored on a squeeze play by junior Nicole Nordie.  TWU scored the other four runs in the second.  All four runs were unearned as the TexAnns committed three errors during the inning.

In the second game, Bice struck out three batters for her 10th win.  Farquhar went 3-for-3 while Nordie drove in two more runs.

The Pioneers scored an unearned run in the second to go on top 1-0 but TSU scored twice in the third to take a 2-1.  TWU responded in the next inning with four runs to go back on top 5-2.  The Pioneers sent eight batters to plate in the inning.

TWU added the eventual game-winning run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Nordie.  The TexAnns made it 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run.  TSU made it 6-5 with a run in the bottom of the seventh and then loaded the bases with two outs but a ground out ended the game.

"After a tough loss in the second game yesterday, we bounced back with a big sweep today and I am proud of the girls," said TWU head coach Genny Stidham.  "Tori stepped up in a big way when we need her with two complete games.  Offensively lot of players came up with key hits with runners on base.  Tealey and Nordie had big numbers this weekend at the plate."

Farquhar finished the four-game series with six runs and 7-for-7 in steals while Nordie drove in eight runs.  Bice posted a 3-0 record with three complete games and 17 strikeouts.

The Pioneers will return to action when they host St. Mary's on Wednesday, Mar. 9.  The doubleheader against the Rattlers is scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
