No. 20 Pioneers Drop Doubleheader at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. (Apr. 2) – The No. 20 TWU softball team lost first LSC series of the season as the Pioneers dropped a pair of 4-2 decisions to the host Cameron Saturday afternoon.  TWU is now 24-14 on the season and 13-7 in the Lone Star Conference.

In game one the Pioneers scored a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Junior Nicole Nordie started the game with a double and scored on a ground out by senior Laura Mabary

After two scoreless innings, Cameron loaded the bases with one out on three straight walks and then hit a grand slam to take a 4-1 lead.  TWU scored its second run in the top of the fifth.  Freshman Lindy Kennedy drew a walk to start the inning and later scored an unearned run.

In game two the Aggies scored an unearned run in the second to go on top 1-0 and then hit a three-run home run in the third to make it 4-0.  The Pioneers got one back in the top of the fifth.  Junior Morgan Harrison tripled with one out and scored on a ground out by sophomore Sydney Hester to make it 4-1.

The Pioneers then made some noise in the top of the seventh as the started the inning with three straight singles to load the bases.  Nordie made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly but a ground out and fly out ended the game.

"Today is not our day and couldn't get anything going offensively," said TWU head coach Genny Stidham.  "We put runners on base in the second game but couldn't get the key hits to get them in.  Our pitching was better and we cut down on the walks compare to yesterday.  We made two mistakes with runners on base and those cost us the games."

Senior Tealey Farquhar went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader while Harrison finished 3-for-6 with a run.  Kennedy and Nordie each finished with two hits.

The Pioneers will return to action when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday, Apr. 5.  The games are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
