Five-game win streak ends in Canyon

CANYON, Texas (Oct. 14, 2017) - Miri Shade posted a match-high 11 kills and 12 digs in her second consecutive double-double for Texas Woman's University, but West Texas A&M snapped a five-game Pioneer win streak in a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) inside The Box Saturday afternoon.

TWU (9-10, 6-4 LSC) recorded a .180 attack percentage compared to .274 by the Lady Buffs (12-9, 6-5 LSC). Katy Ranes tossed out a match-high 36 assists, and Makayla Mayfield registered a match-high 14 digs.

In set one, Briley Cole-Lewis gave the Pioneers a 13-12 edge on a kill, and a WT attack error put TWU up by two. Five straight Lady Buff points flipped the lead before a Shade kill had the Pioneers within 21-20. Kills by Courtney Noel and Caroline Noel kept TWU within a single point, but WT put down a kill and a block to secure the win.

A kill by Mayfield put the Pioneers up 3-2, but that ended up being the last TWU lead in set two. The Lady Buffs led 12-6 following a Pioneer service error and remained ahead at 16-10. A Mayfield kill lessened the deficit to 18-16, and TWU was again within a pair at 23-21, but a block and kill by WT ended the set.

The Pioneers fell behind 9-5 in set three, but went on a tear during a 9-2 run that included kills from Kerstin Jenkins, Shade, Ranes and Caroline Noel. The Lady Buffs wasted little time making a comeback and quickly tied the set at 15-all. A final 10-4 WT run finalized the match.

Head Coach Jeff Huebner said, "Today was a tough go for our players. We struggled a bit in serve receive and some execution pieces, but Caroline Noel was a real bright spot for us. We are looking forward to a great environment for Dig Pink on Tuesday."

The Pioneers host Cameron Tuesday at 7 p.m. during the annual Breast Cancer Awareness match.
