Pioneers take down Cameron, 3-0

DENTON, Texas (Oct. 17, 2017) - Courtney Noel, Miri Shade and Briley Cole-Lewis each tallied nine kills for Texas Woman's University in a 3-0 win over Cameron Tuesday night inside Kitty Magee Arena.

TWU (10-10, 7-4 LSC) produced their second-highest hitting percentage on the year, .276, while limiting the Aggies (5-14, 2-9 LSC) to .092. Katy Ranes registered a match-high 37 assists, and Bailey French had a match-high 22 digs.

The Pioneers led early on in set one before Cameron staged a comeback after trailing 11-7. Caroline Noel provided a kill to break a 12-all tie, but three straight kills by the Aggies handed CU the lead at 15-13. At 21-21, Cole-Lewis delivered a kill and Shade dropped another from the outside for a 23-21 TWU advantage. A block by Cole-Lewis and Caroline Noel made it set-point before the Pioneers narrowly closed out CU at 25-23 on a crosscourt kill by Cole-Lewis.

Courtney Noel broke a 6-6 tie in set two and the Pioneers cruised ahead. Three CU attack errors helped put TWU up 14-8 before Katy Ranes, Caroline Noel and Makayla Mayfield contributed to a 6-1 Pioneer run to increase the margin to 19-9. TWU closed out the set with six straight points on kills from Veronika Webb, Courtney Noel and Mayfield.

TWU fell behind 6-2 in the third set before taking a 10-9 lead following a CU service error. A kill by Cole-Lewis put the Pioneers back in front at 17-16, and back-to-back kills by Ranes pushed the lead to 21-17. An Aggie attack error and ace by Erin Jones put TWU up to aid the 25-20 Pioneer win.

Head Coach Jeff Huebner said, "This was a really good bounce-back match for us. We made a lot of better decisions and had outstanding play from Makayla, Miri, Katy and the Noel sisters. Cameron was scrappy tonight, but we were glad to get it in three."

The Pioneers head to Tarleton State for a 6 p.m. match Friday.
