Volleyball drops match at TAMUC

COMMERCE, Texas (Oct. 24, 2017) - Texas Woman's University was defeated in three sets (12-25, 24-26, 14-25) by Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday evening inside The Field House.

Kerstin Jenkins totaled a team-high eight kills, Katy Ranes delivered a match-high 28 assists, and Bailey French handled a match-high 16 digs. The Pioneers (10-13, 7-7 LSC) struggled offensively with 32 kills, the lowest TWU output against a Lone Star Conference opponent this season. Meanwhile, the Lions (15-9, 10-4 LSC) did well at the net with a .396 hitting percentage, the highest output TWU has allowed from an LSC foe in 2017.

The Pioneers fell behind 5-1 and 12-3 in set one. A block by TAMUC put the Lions up by double-digits at 18-8 and then increased the margin to 22-8. A kill by Briley Cole-Lewis staved off set point at 24-11 before TAMUC posted a final kill.

Cole-Lewis opened set two with a kill to hand the Pioneers their first lead of the evening. Caroline Noel began a 6-0 TWU run with a kill that was followed by a pair of blocks by Nole and Cole-Lewis and a kill by Miri Shade. The Lions regained the lead at 20-18, but Bailey French put the Pioneers up 21-20 with an ace. Jenkins served over another ace for a 24-24 tie, but TAMUC registered a pair of kills to end the set.

A kill by Shade in set three had the Pioneers within a point at 9-8 before a 6-1 Lion spurt. A kill by Jenkins made it 15-10, but TAMUC ended the match with a pair of runs to take the victory.

Head Coach Jeff Huebner said, "Courtney Noel and Bailey French did a terrific job of performing at a high level on a night where we just didn't have the mentality necessary to really compete with a top team. We are looking forward to practices this week to continue to get better and have a terrific performance at home on the weekend."

The Pioneers return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday at 7 p.m. in for an Orange Game to raise awareness for leukemia.
