DENTON, Texas (April 7, 2017) – Texas Woman's University softball took an 8-3 win over Tarleton State Friday night at Pioneer Field as TWU tallied eight runs and 11 hits with
Tylia Sylestine adding four RBI.
Abby Walker set the tone for TWU (22-15, 10-8 LSC) by throwing a strike on the first pitch of the game. The defensive crew went three-up-three-down in the top of the inning before
Nicole Nordie reached on an error in the second half of the frame and plated a run when Sylestine singled up the middle.
The Pioneers held the TexAnns (29-15, 13-9 LSC) without a run for three innings before Megan Durante homered to left field in the top of the fourth. The bottom of the inning was the high point of the game for the Pioneers as four runs were scored.
Tara Solomon made it home followed by Sylestine's homer to bring in three more Pioneers.
Walker (12-6) took the win and faced 31 batters making her overall record 12-6.
TWU had not scored over seven runs since March 18 against Eastern New Mexico. Sylestine now has six home runs on the season and 35 RBI.
Tarleton State is currently ranked fourth in the LSC with a 13-9 mark in conference play while TWU is in the sixth spot at 10-8 .The two teams meet again for a double header Saturday on Pioneer Field at 1 and 3 p.m.
