DENTON, Texas (Sept. 18, 2017) - A goal by Oklahoma Baptist with 61 seconds to play against Texas Woman's University broke a tie to hand the Pioneers a 3-2 loss despite goals by
Chelsea Martin and
Jazmine Navarro Monday night in nonconference action at OBU Soccer Field.
Â
The scoring happened early and often between the teams, with TWU (3-2-1) the first to strike in the third minute where
Alexis Lawrence split two defenders with a pass to find Martin for a 25-foot shot to the top right corner of the goal. Just 30 seconds later, the Lady Bison (4-1) intercepted a Pioneer pass and fired it in to tie the game.
Â
A shot by Martin in the seventh minute ricocheted off of a post and was found by Navarro for her first TWU career goal to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
Â
TWU held onto the one-goal advantage until the 61
st minute when OBU's Ruth King made her way down the field and finished from the right side of the box into the left corner of the goal for a 2-2 game.
Â
The teams remained scoreless until Lady Bison Emmily Infante slotted between a pair of TWU defenders with 88:59 on the clock to take the 3-2 win.

Head Coach
Babak Abouzar said, "We had a great start to the game but had too many defensive errors that they capitalized on. We'll work on those things in practice this week and be prepared for West Texas A&M."
Â
The Pioneers begin Lone Star Conference play Friday with a trip to Canyon for a 7 p.m. contest against the Lady Buffs.
