DENTON, Texas (Sept. 3, 2017) - Texas Woman's University and Regis played 110 minutes Sunday night on TWU Soccer Field with each leaving by way of a tie in double overtime to leave the Pioneers without a loss during opening weekend against two of the top teams in the region in RU and No. 6 Colorado School of Mines.

TWU (1-0-1) registered 10 shots on the evening compared to 15 by the Rangers (0-1-1). The Pioneers tallied three shots on goal, while Regis accumulated five.
Chelsea Martin lead the offensive charge with five shots, three on goal, while
Maddie Vickroy tallied another shutout that included five saves.

Within the first minute of the contest,
Haley Ward quickly got a shot off for the Pioneers, but RU's Julia Coombs was there for the save. Ward had another try seven minutes later but the attempt was wide.

In the 10
th minute, RU had an attempt blocked, and
Jazmine Navarro had a shot sail wide. Ranger Annika Hills sent a shot wide with two minutes to play before the half.

In the second half, Ward again became offensive early with a shot but was blocked in the 46
th minute. The Rangers then recorded a pair of shots but both were off target.
Chelsea Martin had a decent look in the 64
th minute, but the ball went over the goal posts to keep the contest at 0-0.

Vickroy made diving saves in the 66
th and 68
th minute to protect the scoreless game. On the other end, Navarro booted in a corner kick, and Martin tried to break open the game, but the shot was just high.

The squads headed to overtime after a scoreless 90 minutes. Martin tried a shot in the 94
th minute, but the try was high. RU made an attempt two minutes later, but TWU was able to block it.

A pair of high shots by Regis in double overtime bookended a Martin try that was saved. With a maximum of five minutes left in the game, a shot by the Rangers went over the goal. Vickroy made two big stops in the final minute, with her last save coming from her feet on the outside corner.

"Today's game was a grind," Head Coach
Babak Abouzar stated. "We obviously wanted the win, but if you told me before the weekend started that we would go undefeated against the preseason top two teams in the RMAC, I would have been very please. Our team didn't allow a gaol these two games and that's definitely something we can take pride in moving forward this season."

The Pioneers travel to Dallas Baptist for another in-region contest Friday at 7 p.m.
