DALLAS (Sept. 8) - Texas Woman's University soccer suffered its first defeat of the 2017 season in a 2-0 loss at Dallas Baptist Friday at Patriot Soccer Field.

The Pioneers (1-1-1) registered 10 shots on the evening with five on goal, compared to seven and four by the Patriots (2-2). Reigning Lone Star Defensive Player of the Week,
Maddie Vickroy, made a pair of saves for TWU.

Jazmine Navarro wasted little time on offense as she fired off a shot 42 seconds into the contest, but DBU's goalie Hope Koym was there for the save.
Lauren Bradford attempted a shot in the seventh minute, but Koym was again there for the save.

In the 12
th minute, DBU's Ericca Everson connected on her first goal of the season for a 1-0 Patriot lead. Vickroy then stopped a shot by DBU at the 27-minute mark. The Pioneers tried to tie the contest with a shot by Navarro, but it was stopped by Koym. Maddie Nolton and
Chelsea Martin put up shots behind the first half expired, but each went wide.

In the second half, shots by
Libby Murphy and Navarro were each saved by Koym four minutes in. DBU's Jayme Woodfill scored on a header at the 61-minute mark for a 2-0 Patriot advantage.

Alexis Lawrence and
Haley Ward tried to put the Pioneers on the board, but their shots went wide midway through the period. With minutes remaining,
Natalie Gibbs took a corner kick, and
Lauren Neely tried a shot but was blocked.

Head Coach
Babak Abouzar said, "Our energy tonight was lacking. We made a few errors that DBU was able to capitalize on. Credit to them for finishing those chances. We won't let this result define us."

The Pioneers return home for a contest Sunday at 2 p.m. against CSU-Pueblo and will host a free youth clinic following the game.
