Pioneers feast on post-Thanksgiving victory

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 24, 2018) — On Saturday, Texas Woman's hosted Huston-Tillotson, defeating the Lady Rams 83-48 at Kitty Magee Arena.

The Pioneers (2-3) handed the Lady Rams their first loss of the season with freshman Macy Wilkerson and senior Alexus Dukes leading the way.

Wilkerson notched a career-high 17 points on an efficient 3-of-6 shooting from the field while Dukes added 15 points, six boards and two assists in what was her best performance of the young season.

Despite a slow first quarter, the Pioneers rallied, outscoring the Lady Rams 21-6 in the second period, as they cruised to their second victory of the season.

"We started off really slow," head coach Beth Jillson said. "But I'm happy with how we finished the last three quarters of the game."

Additionally, for the third-straight game, Carissa Moody tallied a double-double, finishing the game with 10 points and 13 boards.

KJ Stastny and London Archer would add 10 points apiece, rounding out the five Pioneers to score double figures.

The victory sets the Pioneers up for their first conference game of the season on Thursday against Western New Mexico at 7 p.m.

"It's a good step in the right direction going into conference," Jillson added. "I like the chemistry of the team and I like the growth that I'm seeing every day."
