DENTON (Dec. 1, 2018) — Texas Woman's wrapped up the opening week of conference play with a 45-41 victory over UT-Permian Basin on Saturday.
"I'm really happy with the way we finished," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "We kept our composure. Macy did a great job of stepping up and sealing the win with four huge free-throws."
Leading by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers survived a late push by the Falcons who would go on a 10-0 to cut the lead to 41-39 with over a minute remaining. Down the stretch, it was freshman
Macy Wilkerson who iced the game at the line with four free-throws.
"She made some huge shots in the first half," Jillson said. "We wanted her to get the ball and we knew she would put those free throws in."
Wilkerson ended the game with 15 points and three rebounds while
Carissa Moody continues her solid play with 15 points of her own and six boards.
The victory propels the Pioneers to a 2-0 start in conference play, setting them up for a trio of nonconference games to end the calendar year. Next Saturday, the Pioneers will host Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. in the final home game before the new year.
