DENTON (Dec. 8, 2018) — Texas Woman's ended its six-game homestand with a 65-55 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, the team's fourth-straight win.
The Pioneers (5-3) jumped out of the gates quickly with an 8-0 run to start the game, outscoring the Rams 15-7 in the opening quarter.
"I was really happy with the way we scored against the zone," head coach
Beth Jillson said of the way her team started the game.
Despite allowing the Rams back into the game, the Pioneers battled, ending the game on a 9-0 run in the final 1:31.
"I'm happy with our resiliency to come away with the win," Jillson added. "We gotta be able to put 40 minutes together to be at our very best."
Carissa Moody led the way with 20 points and 14 rebounds, posting her fourth double-double of the season while
London Archer finished two rebounds shy of her own double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.
"She's just so tough and she has such a quiet confidence about her," Jillson said of Moody. "If you know her, she doesn't say much. She just goes to work."
The backcourt of
Alexus Dukes and
Macy Wilkerson combined for 24 points with Dukes adding five assists and four boards.
Next for the Pioneers will be a trip to Tampa, Florida where they will play two games in the Tampa Classic before resuming conference play at the turn of the calendar year.
