TAMPA, Florida (Dec. 19, 2018) — Texas Woman's fell to Florida Tech 59-58 on a last-second shot on Wednesday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Less than 24 hours after a disappointing loss to open the Tampa Classic, the Pioneers bounced back with strong start against the Panthers, leading by as many as nine early in the second quarter.
"We competed so well today and beat them in almost every statistical category except for free-throw percentage, which is very uncharacteristic of us," coach
Beth Jillson said postgame. "That was the difference in the game."
The Pioneers shot 46 percent from the charity stripe while the Panthers converted on 88 percent of their attempts.
Carissa Moody posted her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds while the guard tandem of
Macy Wilkerson and
Alexus Dukes each logged a team-high 12 points apiece.
"We did so many good things today," Jillson said. "Unfortunately we couldn't close out the game."
Bri'Anna Gray added seven points and four rebounds while
London Archer poured in nine points and seven boards before fouling out.
"Bri was a phenomenal defender today," Jillson added. "(She) held their leading scorer to zero points."
Texas Woman's will return to action on Jan. 3 against Angelo State when it visits the Rambelles in a conference matchup.
