ANGELO, Texas (Jan. 3, 2019) — Texas Woman's Basketball opened the new calendar year on the road against Angelo State, falling to the Rambelles 84-61 on Thursday night.
Following a closely matched first quarter, the Pioneers (5-6) were outscored 26-12 in the second quarter.
"We started off strong," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "But costly turnovers allowed easy transition points for ASU."
The Pioneers turned the ball over 23 times, resulting in 22 points off turnovers for the Rambelles. They also conceded 40 points in the paint as well as 18 fast break points.
Despite a team-high 16 points from
Carissa Moody, the Pioneers dropped its first conference game of the season, falling to a Rambelle team that has only lost one game this season.
Alexus Dukes and Bri'Anna Gray each registered double-figures in the ballgame with Dukes posting 12 points and six boards with Gray posting 13 points and six rebounds of her own.
On Saturday, the Pioneers will continue their road trip when they visit Texas A&M-Kingsville.
"We have a quick turnaround," Jillson added. "I know our team will respond with a better defensive effort."
