Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 5, 2019) — On Saturday, Texas Woman's visited Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference battle, falling to the Javelinas 72-70.
After a slow start, the Pioneers erupted for 18-unanswered points over the final 2:18 of the first period to take a 25-11 lead.
The Javelinas would quickly erase the deficit with a 9-0 run to start the second quarter as both teams would trade baskets late into the game.
A team-high 21 points from Bri'Anna Gray along with a season-high 14 points and five rebounds from
KJ Stastny paced the Pioneers.
"We battled and showed a lot of resiliency throughout the game," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "KJ and Bri really stepped up offensively and made some big shots."
Another double-double from
Carissa Moody, 16 points and 11 rebounds kept the Pioneers in the contest as
London Archer finished with six points and eight boards before fouling out.
"Carissa and London did a great job pursuing the basketball," Jillson added. "Giving us second chance opportunities."
Off the bench, Ajine Taylor provided a spark, pouring in eight points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field.
The Pioneers will return to the road next week beginning on Thursday when they take on Tarleton State.
